RSS chief Bhagwat’s ‘Murdabad’ remark triggers controversy, VHP leader’s condition critical
Moradabad. Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s metropolitan co-minister Santosh Pandit was shot dead late Saturday evening. Santosh Pandit has been admitted to Sai Hospital. The incident took place in front of the gate of Mansarovar Colony on Delhi Road in Majhola police station area. On receiving information about the incident, all police officers including SSP Hemraj Meena reached the spot and the hospital.
Rajat Sharma, accused of shooting the VHP leader, is also a metropolitan BJP worker. At the root of the incident, a protest against RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is being said to be at the collectorate on February 8. The protest was held at moradabad collectorate on February 8 by the youth wing of Akhil Bharatiya Brahmin Mahasabha against Mohan Bhagwat’s statement about Pandits.
The accused BJP worker Rajat Sharma had led the protest against Bhagwat. VHP leader Santosh Pandit was running a campaign on social media to expel BJP workers involved in the protest against the RSS chief.
Co Civil Lines Dr. Anup Singh said that the incident took place around 7 pm. Santosh Pandit and Rajat Sharma were standing together. There were some other people with both of them. An argument started between the two. When the matter escalated, Rajat Sharma opened fire on Santosh Sharma. The bullet hit Santosh Pandit on the chest. Chaos spread on the spot as soon as the bullet was fired. After shooting, the accused fled from the spot. Police immediately rushed the injured Santosh Pandit to nearby Sai Hospital. SSP Hemraj Meena said that Santosh Pandit was shot by Rajat Sharma. They both know each other. I have a talk with the injured. His condition is stable. The bullet is in his stomach. They are safe and are being treated. A team has been formed to arrest the accused. Police and SOG teams of 3 police stations led by SP City and CO Civil Lines have been deployed to arrest the accused. Earlier Santosh Pandit and Rajat Sharma had a good relationship. There was an argument between the two about something and this incident happened.
