Master plan will be implemented for water conservation in Uttarakhand

Rain water conservation campaign will be launched in forest areas, water sources in the area will be recharged.

Dehradun. A master plan will be prepared for all the rivers in Uttarakhand from the water source to the state border. Chief Secretary Dr. SS Sandhu gave instructions for this in a meeting with officials of departments related to rain water harvesting at the Secretariat on Wednesday. He also asked to prepare water conservation plan of the state, on the basis of which work will be done in a phased manner.
The Chief Secretary said that the state receives excessive rainfall during the rainy season, but the rest of the time there is water problem. Water conservation can be done by stopping rain water through check dams etc., which will ensure availability of water throughout the year.
Maximum number of check dams should also be included in the objectives of the River and Spring Rejuvenation Authority or agency to be formed in the state. He said that the campaign of rain water conservation in forest areas will play an important role in removing the water shortage in the hilly areas.
This will recharge the water sources of most of the area in the state. He also asked to prepare a mechanism to evaluate rain water conservation schemes and create a dashboard for monitoring. Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretary Forest RK Sudhanshu, Secretary Arvind Singh Hayanki, Neena Grewal from Watershed Management and other officials were present in the meeting.
