District Magistrate Anuradha Pal visits remote Shama-Liti area
Bageshwar. District Magistrate Anuradha Pal said that along with tourism activities, the Tourism and Horticulture Department should work towards horticulture tourism to strengthen the economy of the cultivators. He said that along with traditional farming, different types of farming such as fruits, flowers and vegetables etc. should be encouraged and its production and marketing should be increased, an action plan will have to be prepared and work will have to be done to develop production in a large area, so that farmers can increase their income by making new experiments. He also said that the district has been awarded immense natural wealth, and there is immense potential for tourism here, positive ways have to be found for its promotion and tourism activities will have to be promoted along with the development of new tourist destinations.
District Magistrate Anuradha Pal told the officials during a visit to the remote area of Shama-Liti area of the district that the model of development of a state and country is prepared only by the development of villages, our goal should be to develop the villages properly. During the visit, the District Magistrate inspected the State Sheep Breeding Zone by taking stock of kiwi fruit plantation planted by progressive farmers of Liti, polyhouse and homestay run by local people.
The District Magistrate inspected the kiwi fruit plantation and polyhouse planted on 02 acres and 01 acre by progressive cultivators Khim Singh and Govind Singh of Liti. Praising the work of the farmers, he directed the Horticulture Department to provide technical guidance to the cultivators from time to time to ensure that kiwi production reaches every household by encouraging kiwi production. He said that plants should be made available to the farmers easily and on time. He directed that along with tourism activities, work should be done towards horticulture tourism to strengthen the economy of the cultivators in the area. Additional Horticulture Officer Kuldeep Joshi said that kiwi garden is being set up by the Horticulture Department at 80 percent subsidy under the district plan. Kiwi Fruit Garden has been established on 2 acres of land owned by farmer Khim Singh and 1 acre of Govind Singh. He said that 150 farmers are working in kiwi production in Shama area, who are earning an income of up to 07 lakh per hectare by producing 600 quintals of kiwi every year. After this, during the inspection of the State Sheep Breeding Area, the District Magistrate took various information related to the works of the area. Veterinary Officer Dr. R.R. Chandola said that the area is located in two divisions Shama and Liti in a total of 49.6 hectares of land. At present, there are a total of 253 livestock in the region, including imported Australian marino mendhe, marino sheep and Kashmiri marino breed sheep. At present, 50 newborn lambs have been born from middle breeding of sheep. He informed that a total of 18 thousand sheep are present in the district, 800 sheep rearing families are associated with sheep rearing work. The District Magistrate also directed the local sheep farmers to benefit from the activities and asked them to work to improve the breed of sheep of local sheep farmers by high breed sheep so that more meat and high quality wool can be produced in the local sheep.
After this, the District Magistrate took stock of the Maa Nanda homestay run by Laxman Singh Koranga. He directed the Tourism Development Officer to explore the possibilities in collaboration with the Horticulture Department to increase tourism activities in view of the tourism potential in the area.
During this time, the villagers also gave a memorandum related to various demands to the District Magistrate, on which the District Magistrate assured everyone of necessary action. During the inspection, Deputy District Magistrate Monika, District Tourism Development Officer Kirti Arya, Tahsildar Pooja Sharma, Additional Garden Officer Kuldeep Joshi, Veterinary Officer Dr. R.R. Chandola, Dr. Vijay Kumar and others were present.
