Rafting started a fortnight late in Rishikesh this year due to rise in the water level of Ganga.
Rishikesh. A new season of river rafting has started in Ganga. The first week of the rafting season was important from the business point of view. A total of 6712 tourists have enjoyed river rafting in Ganga in this one week. Due to the ever increasing influx of tourists, the faces of rafting businessmen have also blossomed.
Due to safety reasons, river rafting activity in Ganga remains closed during monsoon period. Which is started as a new session from September 1 when the water level of Ganga decreases. This year, due to the increase in the water level of Ganga due to heavy rainfall in the hilly areas, river rafting activity could not start in Ganga on September 1. After about a fortnight, river rafting was started in Ganga from 16th September.
Such is the attraction of tourists towards rafting that on the very first day, as it was a Sunday holiday, more than one and a half thousand tourists enjoyed rafting in the Ganga. Even after this, a good number of tourists came for rafting throughout the week. Even on this weekend, a large number of tourists are coming for rafting. On Saturday also a good number of tourists enjoyed rafting in the Ganga. Due to which colorful rafts were seen in Ganga throughout the day.
Ganga River Rafting Management Committee said that on Saturday, one week of opening of river rafting in Ganga has been completed. In this one week, a total of 6712 tourists have reached Ganga for river rafting.
A week has passed since rafting activity was opened in river Ganga. But, the roads leading to the rafting point have not been repaired yet. This year, before the rafting session, the District Magistrate had held a meeting of the Ganga River Rafting Management Committee and given instructions to improve all the arrangements. Parking, changing rooms and other passenger facilities are also to be expanded this year. On which work has not started yet.
According to Dinesh Bhatt, Chairman of River Rafting Rotation Committee, the new season of river rafting in Ganga has started, a good number of tourists have arrived in the first week. Even on this weekend a good number of tourists have arrived for rafting. After the opening of rafting, tourists are also reaching here for camping and other activities in the area.
