Children under 6 years of age will not get admission in government and private schools of Uttarakhand.

State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha Dr. Mukul Kumar Sati issued the order
Haldwani.
The admission process for the new session will start in government and private schools of Uttarakhand from April. The admission process will continue till July. Earlier, the age of a child for admission in class one was fixed at five years. Children younger than this age could get admission in Nursery, LKG or UKG. Only last year, the Central Government had made the age of children six years mandatory for admission in class one. Despite this, in many private schools of Uttarakhand, children below six years of age were being given admission in class one, disregarding the rules. According to Dr. Mukul Kumar Sati, State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, the rule of age of a child of six or more years will be implemented for admission in class one in the coming academic session.
Many private schools in big cities of the state were enrolling children below the age of five years even in class one. Children had to bear the brunt of this last year when the Central Government had set the minimum age limit for admission in the first class at six years.
According to the order of the Centre, in Uttarakhand also, only children of minimum six years of age were to be given admission in class one. Due to the arbitrariness of private schools, many children were not able to cross the age barrier. Many children of four or five years of age had also reached class one. Keeping in mind the interests of children, last year the minimum age for admission in class one in the state was kept at five years only.
