The government will promote the cultivation of plants of composite species like cinnamon, timur and lemongrass in the fields left barren due to wildlife.
Under Mission Dalchini Timur and Lemongrass, the government will provide 1.14 crore saplings free of cost to the farmers. In its first phase, on Saturday, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi dispatched a consignment of three lakh saplings to six districts from his camp office. There is a target to cultivate them in about 200 hectares in the state. On this occasion, the Agriculture Minister said that Timur Satellite Center in Pithoragarh’s Vishan village and Cinnamon Satellite Center in Champawat’s Khateda are being developed for promotion, technical training, processing etc. of Timur. Due to damage to crops by wild animals, people are leaving farming in hilly areas. If people cultivate composite plants, then the crops will not be harmed by wildlife and their livelihood will also increase. Cinnamon, Timur and lemongrass of Uttarakhand are of high quality. He said that excellent saplings of various species are being prepared from the Sangadh Plant Center-CAP located at Selakui. A target has been set for lemongrass cultivation in 250 hectare area in the state this year.
CAP Director Nripendra Chauhan gave detailed information about Sangadh plant. Said that their cultivation can be very important for the economy of the state.
