This air service is proposed to be operated from Dehradun to Pantnagar and then to Pithoragarh. In the year 2018, the central government had approved the air service on the Dehradun-Pithoragarh air route under the UDAN scheme. After this, the operation of nine seater airplane was started here. This service was operated between Dehradun to Pantnagar and Pithoragarh. After being operational for some time, the service was first interrupted due to technical fault in the aeroplane, and then it was discontinued in March 2020.
After the end of the Corona period, the state government approached the central government to start this air service. Meanwhile, considering the strategic importance of the area, the government decided to hand over the airstrip to the Air Force. The center has selected a company Fly Big to start air service from here. Now this company has done trial landing.
Chief Executive Officer of Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Council C Ravi Shankar said that preparations are complete for this. Soon the official date of starting the air service will be announced.
