2 vicious wildlife smugglers arrested from Khatima Surai bridge, 4 kg 700 grams pangolin scales recovered

STF got big success, hunted pangolin from the forest of Mahoof range Pilibhit, was going to sell shells to Nepal

Dehradun. STF Uttarakhand’s big action in the field of wildlife, arrested 2 vicious wildlife smugglers with 4 kg 700 grams of pangolin scales.
One of the important campaigns being run by the Director General of Police of Uttarakhand State Mr. Ashok Kumar to strengthen the law and order of the state, SSP STF for prevention and arrest of illegal activities of smugglers involved in illegal smuggling of wild animals in the state. Shri Ayush AgarwalHis teams were directed by the CO, in the same order the team was formed by CO STF Sumit Pandey under the leadership of Inspector M.P.Singh.
Today, the team of Uttarakhand STF, in joint action with the team of Terai Eastern Forest-Division Surai Forest area, 02 vicious wildlife smugglers namely Asharam s/o Lalta Prasad and Nanhe Lal s/o Hori Lal residents of Madhotanda, near Surai bridge located on Khatima-Puranpur road. District Pilibhit, U.P. ArrestedHave doneFrom whose possession 04 kg 700 grams pangolin scales have been recovered.
Both the arrested smugglers told the STF during interrogation that they had hunted this pangolin in the month of March this year from the forest of Mahuf Range, Madhotanda, Pilibhit, which was being taken to Nepal for sale today. Information is being sought regarding the criminal history of the accused. Under Section 9/38/48A/50/51 Animal Protection Act was registered against both the caught smugglers in Terai Eastern Forest Division Surai Range. The accused are being interrogated in detail by the STF regarding pangolin smuggling.
It was told by SSP STF Shri Ayush Aggarwal that for the past several days, STF was receiving information about poaching of wildlife animals from the forests of Kumaon, on which the Kumaon unit was deployed. Today our team, by running a joint operation with Khatima Forest team, has been successful in arresting 02 wildlife smugglers with huge quantity of pangolin scales. He had hunted this pangolin from the forest of Madhotanda, Pilibhit. Had taken out its scales and kept it hidden to sell. Which these people were smuggling and taking to Nepal today.
SSP STF has appealed to the public to immediately contact the nearest police station or STF Uttarakhand (0135-2656202) for action against the wildlife smugglers. Pangolin Day was made around the world on 19th February because Pangolin Day is celebrated every year on the third Saturday of February, Pangolin has been kept in the category of Schedule One because it is simply a rare creature. Uttarakhand STF will continue to take action against wildlife smugglers in future as well, so that hunting of innocent and dumb animals can be effectively curbed.

  1. Asaram s/o Lalta Prasad, resident of village Mainakot police station Madhoganj district Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh age 20 years.
  2. Nanhe Lal s/o Horilal, resident of village Navadiya police station Madhoganj district Pilibhit Uttar Pradesh age 50 year
