Bhatt’s nomination for the election of a Rajya Sabha seat from Uttarakhand was found correct in the investigation.
Dehradun. The nomination papers of the party’s state president Mahendra Bhatt, the only BJP candidate who filed nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat falling vacant from Uttarakhand, were found correct in the investigation. With this, Bhatt’s unopposed election has been decided. This will be announced after the withdrawal of nominations is over on February 20.
BJP candidate Bhatt had filed nomination papers in four sets on Thursday. They were examined in the election chamber of the Assembly building on Friday. According to Returning Officer Chandramohan Goswami, after the investigation found Bhatt’s nomination paper correct, its information has been sent to the Election Commission. He told that the time for withdrawal of nomination for Rajya Sabha elections is till 3 pm on 20th February. After this, Bhatt’s unopposed election will be announced after other formalities are completed.
The number of BJP MLAs in the 70-member state assembly is 47. This is the reason that considering the numerical strength of BJP, the opposition did not muster the courage to field its candidate in the elections for this Rajya Sabha seat. Only MLAs exercise their franchise in this election.
