New Delhi: After 12 days of fierce military conflict between Iran and Israel, US President Donald Trump announced a “complete and permanent” ceasefire between the two countries on June 24, 2025. With this historic announcement, Trump said that Qatar’s mediation has played an important role in this agreement.
Key terms of the ceasefire
Trump said on his social media platforms Truth Social and X that under this ceasefire, Iran has agreed to stop attacks for 12 hours on June 24 and Israel for the next 12 hours. After this, both sides will maintain peaceful behavior so that this conflict can be ended.
Massive destruction in 12 days
In this conflict that started on June 13, 2025, Israel attacked Iran’s nuclear bases and other military installations under “Operation Rising Lion”, while Iran fired ballistic and hypersonic missiles on Israel’s Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem under “Operation Honest 3”. More than 400 people died in Iran in this battle, most of whom were civilians, while 24-25 people died in Israel.
Ambiguity and uncertainty
Although Trump confirmed this ceasefire, both Iran and Israel have not officially welcomed it. Iran’s Foreign Minister said that if Israel stops attacks from 4 am, they will also not retaliate, but reports of explosions continued in Tehran. Due to this, there is ambiguity in the situation.
International reactions
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has described this ceasefire as important for regional stability. Russia, China and Pakistan have criticized the Israeli attacks, while the US has supported Israel. India has evacuated thousands of Indian citizens from Iran and Israel under “Operation Sindhu”.
Need for long-term solution
According to analysts, this ceasefire is a relief for the time being, but peace will not last without addressing the root causes of the conflict such as Iran’s nuclear program and other aspects of regional tensions. Experts have warned that if Iran gets help from Russia or China, the conflict may flare up again.
Future direction
For now, the ceasefire has brought relief to the region, but success will depend on the behavior of both countries and the cooperation of the global community. For a permanent solution to this conflict, all parties will have to make efforts at the diplomatic level so that permanent peace can be established in the Middle East.
