Earthquake causes massive devastation in Nepal, 129 people dead so far

So far 128 people have died and dozens have been injured due to the strong earthquake that hit the western region of Jajarkot in Nepal. Officials said on Saturday that many houses in the area had collapsed.
Nepal’s National Seismological Center said the quake, which had a magnitude of 6.4, struck at 11:47 pm (1802 GMT) on Friday. The German Research Center for Geosciences downgraded the earthquake’s magnitude from 6.2 to 5.7, while the US Geological Survey estimated its magnitude at 5.6.
Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has reached Jajarkot. Here he met the people affected by the strong earthquake that hit the area last night.
Nepal’s National Center for Seismology said the earthquake’s magnitude was 6.4. Jajarkot is a hilly area of Nepal and the population here is about 2 lakhs, in which the area has the highest population.
Those most affected by the earthquake were small villages situated on hills.
At the same time, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his grief on X-post regarding the earthquake in Nepal. He said, “Deeply saddened by the loss of life and damage caused by the earthquake in Nepal. India stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal and stands ready to provide all possible assistance. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and we offer our condolences to the injured.” Wish you a speedy recovery.
