Disaster in Uttarakhand, Silai Band landslide: Rescue work continues, 2 dead, 7 missing

Dehradun. A landslide occurred late night due to heavy rains near Silai Band, about 4 km ahead of Paligad on the Yamunotri National Highway. A total of 29 workers were present in the camp at the time of the accident. Immediately after the incident, all the relief teams including police, fire, SDRF, NDRF, revenue, NH Barkot, health department started rescue work on a war footing.

By this morning, the rescue team safely evacuated 20 workers and shifted them to Paligad. However, two workers have died in this accident. The deceased include Kewal Bisht (43) resident of Karmamohani police station Rajapur district Nepal and Dujelal (55) resident of Pilibhit. Their bodies were recovered from the Yamuna river between Barkot Tiladi and Chhatanga.

7 workers are still missing in the incident, search operation is going on for their search. The missing people include Anvir Dhami (40) and his wife Sar Kateel Dhami (32) residents of Bajura Nepal, Roshan Chaudhary (37) and Kullu Tharu (60) residents of Bardian Nepal, Jaichand alias Bobby (38), Prince (20) and Chhotu (22) residents of Kalidas Road Dehradun.
The administration is keeping a close watch on the situation and is in constant touch with the families of the missing workers. Relief and rescue operations are being expedited so that the missing persons can be traced as soon as possible. Extra precautions are being taken in the area in view of the weather department’s warning.
