CDO arrived with a check of Rs 22. 81 crore, former CM Harish Rawat sat on strike

Congress ends protest at Iqbalpur Sugar Mill demanding payment of sugarcane arrears

The ongoing dharna led by former Chief Minister Harish Rawat at the main gate of Iqbalpur Sugar Mill ended on the second day. CDO Prateek Jain reached the picket site with a check of Rs 22. 81 crore for payment of sugarcane dues. Congress MLAs and farmers protested in the dharna.
Iqbalpur Mill has outstanding cane payment of Rs 2.46 crore for crushing season 2017-18 and Rs 108 crore for 2018-19. Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat started a 24-hour strike at the mill from Tuesday. But this strike continued even after twenty four hours. The people sitting on the dharna talked about protesting indefinitely. In the afternoon, JM Bhagwanpur Ashish Kumar Mishra, ADCO Shailendra Singh came from the sugarcane department.
CDO Prateek Jain reached the protest site around 4 pm. He handed over a check for payment of cane arrears of Rs 22.81 crore given by the mill. The CDO said that the outstanding cane payment of the farmers would reach their accounts in a week. The former Chief Minister warned that if the remaining sugarcane payment is not made soon, then there will be a sit-in demonstration. At around 4.30 pm, it was announced to end the protest
