Dehradun: Due to increasing pollution in Delhi, 300 old diesel buses of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation have been banned from entering Delhi. All these buses are of BS-3 and BS-4 category. Due to this ban, passengers going from Uttarakhand to Delhi are facing a lot of trouble.
Delhi government had warned
For the last three years, the Delhi government was warning the transport corporations of other states including Uttarakhand Transport Corporation to ban the entry of BS-3 and BS-4 diesel buses. However, Uttarakhand Transport Corporation did not take this warning seriously and did not take any concrete steps towards updating its fleet.
What is the status of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation?
At present, Uttarakhand Transport Corporation has only 90 BS-6 diesel and 162 contracted CNG buses which can go to Delhi. That is, out of a total of 540 buses, 288 buses will no longer be able to go to Delhi.
Why did this situation happen?
- Old buses: Most of the buses with Uttarakhand Transport Corporation are old and polluting.
- Ignoring warning: The corporation did not take the warning of the Delhi government seriously.
- Delay in purchase of new vehicles: The corporation was very slow in purchasing new vehicles.
Passengers are facing problems
Due to this ban, thousands of passengers travelling from Uttarakhand to Delhi are facing problems. They now have to resort to other means of transport.
What is the solution?
- Buying new buses: Uttarakhand Transport Corporation should buy new buses as soon as possible to modernize its fleet.
- Coordination with Delhi government: The corporation should find a solution to this problem in collaboration with the Delhi government.
- Providing facilities to passengers: The corporation should provide alternative transport facilities to the passengers.
