While working in a concrete machine, a man’s hand was severed from the shoulder. Wrapped in a wet, clean cloth and kept in an ice cube container, the amputated hand along with the patient was taken to AIIMS Rishikesh via heli-ambulance. In an emergency, a team of surgeons from the trauma department of AIIMS started the surgery to join the amputated hand of the injured person and after five hours of tireless work, they succeeded in giving a new life to the injured.
Sharif Ansari’s son Qayamuddin Ansari from Dharchula area of ​​Pithoragarh district was brought to AIIMS Rishikesh by helicopter on May 20 with his severed hand kept in a bag.
While working in the machine, his right hand was completely severed from the shoulder and blood was oozing continuously from the young man’s shoulder.
Dr. Neeraj Kumar and Dr. Sunil Kumar, the trauma surgeons on duty at the trauma emergency of AIIMS, immediately adapted the patient and activated the trauma system. The hand of this young man admitted in AIIMS is now joined and he is on recovery. This is the first surgery of its kind in Uttarakhand, in which a hand completely severed from the body has been reattached
