Dehradun. Driving licenses of drivers who endanger themselves as well as the lives of others by driving under the influence of alcohol are now being canceled directly. More than 15 licenses have been canceled in the last five months.
Drink and drive falls under the category of dangerous driving. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, vehicles are being seized and challaned on drink and drive. Driving license is suspended for six months. The challan of drink and drive is settled by the court. There is a minimum fine of ten thousand rupees. Even after strict provisions, many drivers are not deterring from their habits, the Transport Department has made preparations to take such drivers out of the road. Now their driving licenses are being directly canceled for life.
RTO (Administration) Sunil Sharma said that drunken driving is dangerous, strict action is being taken against such people, their DLs are being canceled directly. Now 15 DLs have been cancelled. This action will be further extended in future
