In the book of former CM Harish Rawat, who has completed five decades in the politics of Uttarakhand, political events from his early life till the year 2020 have been told. Along with this, he has detailed his vision for the state and his work as the Chief Minister. In this, the most important disclosure has been made regarding former CM ND Tiwari. Giving details after the Rampur Tiraha incident, Rawat said that on his proposal, the then PM PV Narasimha Rao agreed to make Uttarakhand a union territory. For this the leaders of Uttarakhand were called. By mistake, he (Rawat) also invited Tiwari. But Tiwari was already angry at not being made a minister at the Centre. Taking his name in such a situation, he said that Govind Ballabh Pant had told Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru that the division of Uttar Pradesh would happen on his dead body and he also thinks the same. Disappointed Rao left the meeting on hearing this. The meeting ended with slogans of Narasimha Rao Murdabad. According to Rawat, then for immediate relief, he proposed suspending the BJP MLAs from the House for some time, which was not accepted by his colleagues. Due to the developments that took place, a record was registered in his name for handling the responsibility of Chief Minister four times in three years.
Describing the relationship with Tiwari in detail, Rawat has said that by 1991 he had progressed a lot in Congress politics, but remained Tiwari’s favorite. After the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, before the counting of votes, Tiwari came to him regarding the claim for the post of PM, during this he expressed his apprehension to Tiwari about his own and Tiwari’s possible defeat, from here Tiwari’s blessings ended with him forever.
