Municipal body notification may be issued before May 15

The government is busy in preparations in accordance with the spirit of the affidavit given in the High Court to conduct elections by June 30.
Dehradun
. After the declaration of Lok Sabha election results, preparations are underway for municipal elections in Uttarakhand. In accordance with the spirit of the affidavit given in the High Court to conduct the elections by June 30, the government has started preparations for it.
In this context, advice has been sought from the Finance, Personnel and Justice Department in view of amendment in the Municipal Bodies Act regarding other points including making the limit of reservation for OBC (Other Backward Class) in the civic bodies on the basis of actual numbers instead of 14 percent. . After this, after getting permission from the Election Commission, the government can amend the Act through an ordinance and on this basis the civic elections will be held.
It is clear from the indications that notification for elections in 99 municipal bodies can be issued before May 15. At present 102 municipal bodies are functional in the state, out of which elections are not held in three. Elections for eight other newly formed municipal bodies will be held later. After the five-year tenure of the municipal bodies in the state ended on December 2 last year, when the situation was not ripe for elections, they were handed over to the administrators.
According to the Municipal Act, the tenure of administrators cannot exceed six months. This period ends on June 2. Meanwhile, a case is also going on in the High Court regarding the delay in civic elections. An affidavit has been given in the court by the government that the civic elections will be conducted by June 30. However, at present the Model Code of Conduct for Lok Sabha elections is also in force.
In such a situation, the problem is that if municipal elections are held then the model code of conduct of two elections cannot be implemented in the state. Now that the first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections has taken place in the state and the results are to be declared on June 4, there may be some relaxation in this situation. According to sources, an affidavit was given in the High Court by the government on this basis. In view of all this, the government has now started preparing for the civic elections.
