Haldwani. The festival of Holi is being celebrated with pomp today. People are congratulating Holi by coloring each other with colors. There are also 100 villages in Uttarakhand where Holi is not celebrated. In these 100 villages of Dharchula and Munsiyari in Pithoragarh district, people stay away from colours. People believe that God will get angry if they use colours on the mountains.
According to the Times of India report, people say that they do not want to make God’s mountains dirty with colors. Narendra, a resident of Baram village in Dharchula, said, “Chipla Kedar devta is worshipped in these villages. These are the forms of Lord Shiva and Bhagwati. Chipla Kedar Yatra takes place here every third year. It is very much recognized in the surrounding areas. People circumambulate here and then bathe in the pool. It is also called Gupta Kailas which is at an altitude of 16 thousand feet.
They believe that the gods will be angry because of the colors. “Playing Holi is considered impure here. For these people, the day of Holi is also like the rest of the normal days. No one wants to offend the deity. Many people believe that if someone plays Holi here, it is bad. People say that if Holi is played in a family, then very soon its bad results are seen. A person or an animal dies in his house. “The place is the place of Bharari Devi and colours are banned here,” a villager said. We believe that Holi will lead to misfortune. That’s why we stay away from colors.
Historians say that Holi has never been a mountain festival. The tribals of the hilly areas also did not celebrate Holi. After this, when the migration of people started, Holi was also celebrated in the mountains. A social activist from Dharchula said the Anwal community of Dharchula and the Barpatia community have not celebrated any Hindu festival for many years. Holi is celebrated on many occasions in Kumaon. In this, people gather, sing folk songs and enjoy the dishes.
