Police arrived in Gangolihat before the wedding procession, the groom returned without the bride’s procession

Police stopped child marriage, warned both the families, now the girl will get married when she becomes an adult

Pithoragarh. A case of child marriage has come to the fore in Gangolihat of the district. Police has stopped the marriage of a minor girl in village Jadtola Chimta. The procession girl had reached home. The police reached before the rounds and the groom had to return without the bride.
On the information about the marriage of the minor, Police Station Gangolihat Mangal Singh along with the police team reached the spot. When the police checked the birth certificates of the bride, her age was found to be 15 years and 4 months. Police counseled both the families. Giving legal information to both the parties regarding Child Marriage Prohibition Act, it was told that it is a crime to marry a minor. Accepting their mistake, both the families told that they were not aware of the law. Will marry the girl only when she comes of age. Application was given by both such families.
Both the families were instructed by the police team not to do such work in future. After this, Badena Bengali returned to her home without the bride in the procession. The police team consisted of SHO Gangolihat Mangal Singh, Desh Deepak, Rajpal Singh, Narendra Rana, Home Guard Vijay Kumar, Gaurav Bungla
