After a day-long round of talks on Thursday, a meeting of Muslim organizations with the Chief Minister was held in the evening. The police have heaved a sigh of relief after the cancellation of the mahapanchayat.
In response to the movement of Hindu organizations to vacate shops from Muslim traders in Purola and to open a front against them, Muslim organizations had called a mahapanchayat in Dehradun. At the level of governance and administration, a race was on to stop the mahapanchayat for the last three days. In this episode, Senior Superintendent of Police Dalip Singh Kunwar on Wednesday night and then Director General of Police Ashok Kumar also held a meeting with Muslim organizations on Thursday, but he was adamant on the Mahapanchayat.
Senior Superintendent of Police said that after meeting the Chief Minister on Thursday evening, the Muslim organizations decided to postpone the mahapanchayat. State President of Muslim Seva Sangathan Naeem Qureshi said that the Chief Minister agreed on the points put forth in the meeting.
