Haridwar. Swami Alok Giri Maharaj of Shree Taponidhi Panchayati Akhara Niranjani said that the rare coincidence of Maa Kamakhya temple’s Ambuwachi fair with Gupta Navratri has been made after many years. The Ambuvachi fair will start from 22nd June and continue till 26th June. The temple will remain closed for the devotees for the first three days. Devotees will be able to have darshan from June 25.
Mahant Alok Giri Maharaj, manager of Shri Balaji Dham Siddha Hanuman Narmadeshwar Mahadev Temple, Jagjitpur, said that there is a description of four Navratri in Hindu religious scriptures. Apart from Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratri, there are also two Gupta Navratri. One Gupta Navratri falls in the month of Magha and the other in the month of Ashadha. Ashadh Gupta Navratri is starting from 19th June, which will end on 28th June. The Ambubachi fair is being organized at the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati in a rare coincidence of Gupta Navratri. Devotees, saints and tantriks are reaching the temple from all over the country. He said that this year the Ambubachi fair will run from June 22 Wednesday to June 26 Sunday. The doors of the temple will be closed on June 22 and will be opened on the morning of June 25. On June 25, the doors will open only after worshiping the Goddess and taking a bath. After this the prasad will be distributed among the devotees. Ambubachi Mela is also known as Ameti or Tantric fertility festival. Tantrics from all over the country gather here in large numbers to worship the mother. Ambubachi means spoken of water. The word also means that the rains during the monsoon months prepare the earth to be fertile. The annual menstrual cycle of Maa Kamakhya is celebrated at the Ambubachi Mela. Swami Alok Giri Maharaj said that the Kamakhya temple remains closed for three days during the Ambubachi fair. During these three days, there are certain restrictions for the devotees, which include things like no devotee reading holy scriptures, worshiping, cooking food etc. Such things are similar to what is seen by women during menstruation. He said that after three days, the doors of the temple are opened again, and devotees are allowed to enter the temple. Devotees then visit the temple to seek the blessings of the goddess, and prasad is distributed among them.
