Haridwar. The truck crushed the couple riding a scooter near the Bahadarabad police station on the Roorkee-Haridwar highway. The truck dragged them for a long distance. Both died on the spot. The truck driver was caught by the local people and handed over to the police.
According to police, Ram Singh (57) s/o Jot Singh Kathait r/o L-2 Shantipuram, Dhadhera Phatak Milap Nagar was working in Uttarakhand Sanskrit University after retirement from Army. On Sunday morning, he came from Roorkee to Haridwar with his wife Sarojini (54) riding a scooter. He was returning back at around 5.15 pm. A truck coming from behind rammed the scooter near Shani Mandir on the highway and ran over the couple.
In-charge Inspector Ravindra Shah said that the dead bodies have been taken into possession and sent to the district hospital for postmortem. The truck has been seized after taking the driver into custody. The relatives of the couple have been informed about the accident. A case will be registered on Tahrir.
