Trial of sending medicine from drone 36 km away in 29 minutes successful

It will help in delivering medicines in emergency to sick people in remote areas

Dehradun. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Rishikesh) has given new hope to the hilly areas by delivering medicines by drones on Thursday. The drug was sent to Tehri District Hospital for TB patients on a trial basis from the drone. AIIMS is 36 km from Rishikesh’s helipad to Tehri. The drone completed the aerial distance in 29 minutes. AIIMS Rishikesh, which started sending medicines through drones, has now become the first AIIMS institute in the country.
Executive Director Professor (Dr.) Meenu Singh said that this facility will prove to be especially beneficial in making tb free India campaign successful in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Uttarakhand is a state with extreme geographical conditions. By delivering medicines through this medium to the sick people living in remote areas of the mountain, their treatment can be started in time. Apart from this, medical equipment related to medicine or treatment will also be delivered immediately to the people trapped in emergency situations. This technique will also save time in the process of transplantation of the cornea of the eye.
Due to lack of oxygen during the Chardham Yatra, many pilgrims need immediate medicines or medical equipment. Apart from this, during the walk, many people become seriously ill due to heart attack, brain stroke and other health reasons. In such a situation, this facility of AIIMS Rishikesh can prove to be effective in delivering medicines to them immediately.

This is how the drone covered the distance in 29 minutes
It takes about 3 hours by road to reach the district hospital at Bauri in Tehri from the AIIMS helipad. The drone has completed this distance in 29 minutes. The drone, carrying medicines from AIIMS, took off at 10.44 am and landed in Tehri at 11.14 am. On its return journey, it took off from Tehri district hospital at 11.44 am and landed safely at the helipad at AIIMS at 12.15 pm. Flying at a speed of 120 km per hour, this drone can carry 3 kg of weight. The drone has its own weight of 16.5 kg, while the aerial distance from AIIMS to District Hospital Tehri is about 36 km.
