Uttarakhand’s mountains covered with white sheets due to the first snowfall of the season, rain in the plains

Orange alert of heavy snowfall in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar even today.

Dehradun. Heavy snowfall has started in Uttarakhand after the change in weather. Snowfall on the peaks started from Tuesday night, which continued till Wednesday evening. Apart from this, rainfall was also recorded in many areas of the state after about two and a half months.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert today i.e. Thursday also regarding heavy snowfall in areas at a height of more than 3,000 meters in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar. There is a possibility of rain and hailstorm along with thunder and lightning in the surrounding areas. The temperature may also drop by three to five degrees Celsius.
The weather has finally become kind in Uttarakhand. After light rainfall in early November, drought conditions persisted throughout the winter. Due to the activity of the latest western disturbance, the weather pattern changed from Tuesday evening itself. Light snowfall started on the peaks late at night. Whereas, there were several rounds of snowfall throughout the day on Wednesday.
At the same time, rainfall was also recorded in many areas. Dehradun and surrounding areas including Mussoorie also received light to moderate rainfall. Uttarkashi witnessed heavy snowfall in the higher reaches including Gangotri-Yamunotri, while the district headquarters and all tehsil areas received light rainfall. Late evening, snowfall was continuing in Harshil Valley, Kharsali, Harkidun including Gangotri-Yamunotri. Snowfall also occurred on the high hills including Kedarnath Dham in Rudraprayag, due to which the cloud cover in the valley has increased the cold. Snowfall also occurred on the higher hills including Tungnath, Madmaheshwar, Lincholi.
Along with Badrinath Dham in Chamoli, there was snowfall in Hemkund Sahib, Gorso, Auli. Heavy snowfall also occurred on the high peaks of Munsiyari in Kumaon. It has rained in the lower valleys. Snow fell on Rajrambha, Panchachuli, Hansling and Khaliyatop near the tehsil headquarters.
Due to change in weather, there is cloud cover in Doon and light rain was also recorded late in the night. Although there was drizzle at isolated places in the city, drizzle was recorded in Mussoorie and surrounding areas including Malsi, Rajpur. There was a possibility of snowfall in nearby Dhanaulti also till late night. At the same time, there was snowfall in Surkanda hills and Lokhandi in Chakrata. This has provided relief from the dry cold for the time being.
According to Bikram Singh, Director of Meteorological Center, the weather patterns in Uttarakhand are expected to remain changed even today. There may be heavy snowfall in areas at altitude above 3,000 meters in the state. There is a possibility of light snowfall even in areas at altitude above 2,500 meters. Yellow alert has been issued regarding rain and hailstorm in low-lying areas. Doon is generally cloudy with light rainfall.
