Married woman was befriended on Instagram, woman came under the guise of cyber thug
New Delhi. A 51-year-old Mumbai woman was duped of Rs 3.68 lakh on the pretext of sending Valentine’s Day gifts. The woman is married. On Instagram, she befriended a man named Alex Lorenzo.
While registering the complaint, the woman said that the man had told her that he had sent a Valentine’s Day gift parcel. A fee of 750 Euros has to be paid after receiving the parcel. The woman received a message from the parcel company that the parcel was heavier than the permissible limit. So they will have to pay an additional fee of Rs 72,000. After this the woman paid him.
After payment, the woman was contacted again and told that she had received European currency notes in the parcel. He will have to pay Rs 2,65,000 to avoid money laundering charges. Fearing this, the woman again paid the amount. However, when the woman was again asked to pay Rs 98,000 to receive the parcel sent by the man, she became suspicious.
