Pune. Four people died due to suffocation in a drain in Pune, Maharashtra on Wednesday. Four people died of suffocation in a drain in Baramati, the news agency was quoted as saying.
A man named Praveen Atole went inside to clean the motor pipe, but he fell unconscious. When his father went inside to save him, he too fainted. One by one, three people got into the drain. All of them died of suffocation. Police say that two more people went inside behind Praveen and his father and died.
An official from Malegaon police station said the drain was full and the victims were cleaning it. Some of the garbage got stuck in the motor pump of the drain, so a person named Praveen Atole went inside to remove it, but he fell unconscious due to suffocation.
Praveen’s father Bhanudas Atole, Prakash Sopan Atole and Babasaheb Gavahe entered the chamber one by one and all fell unconscious and fell into the water accumulated inside, he said. The four were pulled out of the drain and taken to a hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead, the police officer said. The investigation of the case is currently underway.
