Dehradun. Congress may announce candidates for five Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand after March 10. The second phase meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee is proposed on March 10 and 11.
The screening committee has sent 16 names to the Central Election Committee in the panel to shortlist the contenders. In this, a decision will be taken on five names in the committee meeting. On Friday, the Congress high command released the first list of candidates in Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Nagaland, Telangana, Lakshadweep, Sikkim, Tripura and other states.
Uttarakhand is not included in this. The second meeting of the Central Election Committee is to be held on March 10 and 11 in New Delhi, in which candidates are likely to be announced for all five seats of Uttarakhand. Congress state president Karan Mahara said, in the screening committee meeting, there was a thorough discussion on the names of candidates for Pauri Garhwal, Haridwar, Nainital, Almora and Tehri seats.
A total of 42 leaders and officials had claimed for tickets on the five seats. After discussion in the meeting, a panel of 16 names was decided. The screening committee will also shortlist the names from these. After which the names of the candidates will be announced in the meeting of the Central Election Committee. The candidates are likely to be announced after March 10. State Mahila Congress general secretary Shivani Thapliyal has claimed the ticket from Tehri parliamentary constituency, while Mahila Congress state president Jyoti Rautela has claimed the ticket from Pauri Garhwal seat.
