Crackdown on those who keep pitbulls and American bulldogs in Nainital, notice issued

Nainital: Nainital Municipality has taken strict steps to stop the growing terror of dogs in the city. The municipality had launched a campaign for registration of pet dogs, but many people have not yet registered their pet dogs.
Eye on banned breeds
Especially people who keep banned breed dogs are still ignoring the rules. The municipality has started a survey on the basis of complaints in which the breeds of dogs being kept in the city are being investigated. In this survey, two people in Awagarh and Mallital area have been found to have banned breed pitbulls and American bulldogs.
Notice issued
The municipality has issued notices to both these people. In the notice, they have been instructed to deposit the challan in the municipality as well as get their dogs sterilized and vaccinated against rabies. Also, they will have to give an affidavit in which they will accept that they will not keep banned breed dogs.
Municipality’s strict stance
Municipal Executive Officer Deepak Goswami said that the municipality wants to register all the pet dogs being kept in the city. For this, the supervisors of the municipality have been asked to go to the city and check the registration documents of the dogs from the people and mark the dogs of banned breeds.

Why is registration of dogs necessary?

Registration of dogs is necessary so that in case of dog attacks, the owner of the dog can be easily identified and action can be taken against them. Apart from this, getting the dogs registered also helps in controlling the number of dogs.

What will happen next?
The municipality will take strict action against those who keep dogs of banned breeds. If a person is found keeping a dog of banned breed, he can be fined and his dog can also be confiscated.
