There may be clean air in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, but the climate in the cities of the plains is troubling. Moderately polluted air is harmful for respiratory patients in many cities including Dehradun. Whereas, on Diwali this level reaches very high. Also, the air remains highly polluted even during normal days in winter.
These days, the Air Quality Index (AQI) level in most of the cities including Dehradun is between 100 to 150, which falls in the category of moderately polluted air. It is not very harmful for normal people, but it can cause a lot of trouble to respiratory patients.
At the same time, there is a possibility of it reaching 150 and sometimes even more than 200 in the coming days. Which is very painful even for the common man. The rapidly increasing population and number of vehicles in some cities of Uttarakhand is also spoiling the climate.
However, the government is claiming to take effective steps to reduce air pollution. In this sequence, recently the state government has banned diesel vehicles older than 15 years.
