The division bench of Chief Justice and Justice asked the government as to how many schools in the state have toilet and drinking water facilities.
Nainital. The High Court has termed the absence of toilets and water facilities in government schools of the state as a violation of the constitutional rights of children. While hearing the case, the division bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal asked the government how many schools are there in the state, which have toilet and drinking water facilities? How much budget is given to their care? Whether parents association has been formed in schools or not? Inform the court through an affidavit within two weeks. The court has also asked the Secretary School Education and Secretary Higher Education to submit their reply. The next hearing of the case will be on October 12.
The High Court, taking suo motu cognizance of the letter of Van Panchayat Sarpanch Hansa Lodhiyal regarding toilet facilities in Government Inter College Dhanachuli in Nainital district, heard it in the form of a PIL. It was told in the letter that about 450 students study in the school from class six to 12. This is the only educational institution in the area which is working for the education and development of the youth. There are a total of 12 toilets in this college, out of which six are locked. After investigation, the Principal told that these toilets are closed due to lack of staff for regular cleaning. Due to lack of toilets, girl students are being forced to leave school. Complaints were made several times, but the facilities were not improved.
