New Delhi. Security preparations are being strengthened in the country after the surgical strike by the Indian Air Force on terrorist camps in Pakistan. In this sequence, mock drill to protect against air attack will be conducted in about 300 civil security districts of India on Wednesday. The purpose of this exercise is to test and strengthen the readiness of common citizens and security agencies in case of a possible attack.
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan reviewed the preparations of this mock drill being done on the instructions of the Union Home Ministry with the Chief Secretaries of the states on Tuesday. States have been given the freedom to include additional districts and sensitive places as per their requirement.
What is a civil security district?
Civil security districts are different from normal administrative districts. If an area has important structures like cantonment, nuclear plant, refinery or hydroelectric dam, it can be declared a civil security district. Such areas are given special importance from the security point of view.
Sirens will be sounded during the drill, common people should not panic
Sirens will be sounded during the mock drill to warn of air raids. Citizens will be trained to stay alert and follow the instructions of the officers. Cleaning of bunkers, emergency arrangements and informing people about self-defense measures will also be a part of the exercise. The Home Ministry has clarified that this is only an exercise, there is no possibility of any real danger.
Special focus on districts with sensitive installations
Districts with important installations like nuclear plants, military bases, refineries and hydroelectric projects have been specially included in the drill. Apart from this, mock drills will be conducted on a large scale in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata as well as border districts.
Participation of all sections is mandatory
Students, employees of government and private institutions, hospital staff, railway and metro workers, police, paramilitary forces and army personnel will be involved in this exercise. This will enable the citizens and security personnel of the country to be prepared in any emergency situation.
