Nagpur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has expressed serious concern over the decline in population growth rate at a program on Sunday. He said that if the population growth rate of a society goes below 2.1, then that society will automatically perish. He also said that there is a need to have at least three children.
Citing modern population science
Bhagwat, citing modern population science in his statement, said that a fertility rate of 2.1 is necessary for the survival of any society. He said, “The population should not go below 2.1. Our country’s population policy was decided in 1998 or 2002. The population of a society should not be less than 2.1. We need a birth rate of more than two or three children, this is what population science says.”
Why is the situation worrying?
According to Bhagwat, many languages and cultures have already become extinct due to population decline. He said that if we do not pay attention to this in time, the same can happen with India.
Statement surrounded by controversies
This statement of Bhagwat has become a topic of much discussion on social media. Many people have supported this statement, while many people have also criticized it.
