The Uttarakhand High Court has issued notices to the state and central governments and asked them to file their replies within three weeks while hearing a PIL seeking to locate and cremate the missing bodies following last year’s Dhauli Ganga disaster in Raini area. A division bench of the Chief Justice has fixed the date of hearing in the case after three weeks.
Acharya Ajay Gautam, a resident of Delhi, had filed a PIL in the high court stating that many people had gone missing after the disaster in Dhauli Ganga in Raini village last year. It confirmed that 206 people were killed. The petitioner says that the state government did not find the bodies buried in the disaster. The petitioner told the court that around 122 people were still missing in the area. In which not only the people of the country but also the people of the neighboring country are included. He said it was the responsibility of the state government to find the bodies of the missing people and cremate them with rituals.
