Uttarakhand cricketer sentenced to 10 years in teenage suicide case

The court of Special Fast Track Pankaj Tomar also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.

Dehradun. The court has sentenced Uttarakhand cricketer Sumit Juyal to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty of forcing a teenage girl to commit suicide. The court of Special Fast Track Pankaj Tomar has also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the culprit.
He was also currently a part of the camp of the senior cricket team of Uttarakhand. Government advocate Kishore Singh said that the girl had committed suicide by hanging herself in her room on December 9, 2017. After this, the father of the deceased had filed a case in Clementtown police station on December 15, 2017.
The girl’s father alleged that he had searched the room after his daughter’s death. The teenager was in contact with Sumit Juyal, resident of Bharuwala, Clementtown. The last chat in his mobile was with Sumit only. It was written in this chat that Sumit you will not improve..bae. Apart from this, there was mention about Sumit in the girl’s diary also. Sumit used to take the girl out of the city in the name of making her participate in sports. For this, he used to prepare fake letters, in which the names of the teachers were mentioned, but the phone number was of Sumit.
It was only after seeing this letter that her relatives allowed the girl to participate in sports. Samit used to take the girl and exploit her there. He was also blackmailing her and demanding money. In this case, on the basis of preliminary investigation, the police registered a case against Sumit and arrested him. After this, charge sheet was filed against the accused.
A total of 10 witnesses were presented in this case by the prosecution. On the basis of the testimony and evidence of these witnesses, the court found Sumit guilty and sentenced him.
Sumit has been a rising player of Uttarakhand cricket team. He bowls at medium fast pace. Presently he was participating in the camp of the senior cricket team. His father had taken him home from the camp on Sunday on some pretext. On Monday, he was presented before the court, from where he has been sent to jail. During the year 2019 also, his name had surfaced in a fraud case. BCCI had banned Sumit Juyal for two years for showing wrong age in the selection of Uttarakhand Under-19 cricket team.
