New Delhi. Covid-19 infection has started spreading in the world once again. A significant increase in cases has been recorded in Asian countries like Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand. The Government of India is also keeping an eye on this situation.
Singapore is witnessing an increase in the pace of Covid infection. There, 14,200 new cases of Covid were registered in the week ending on May 3, while in the previous week i.e. the week ending on April 27, 11,100 cases were reported. Thus, a 14 percent increase in cases has been seen in a week. Apart from this, the number of infected people admitted to the hospital has also increased to 133, which was earlier 102. Variants like LF-7, NB 1.8 and JN 1 have been reported in Singapore.
The rate of infection in Hong Kong has been higher than Singapore. There, 1,042 cases have been registered in the week ending May 10, which shows an increase of 30 percent compared to the previous week. In view of this increase, the Hong Kong government has started a re-vaccination campaign for people of vulnerable age group, so that they can be protected from serious infection.
The infection situation is also getting serious in Thailand. Since the beginning of the year 2025, there have been 19 deaths from Kovid and 71 new cases have been reported. At the same time, there are reports of increase in Kovid cases in China, but the official figures are not being made public by the Chinese government, making it difficult to assess the situation correctly.
It is worth noting that most countries have now stopped regular reporting of Kovid cases, but monitoring and analysis is still going on. The Government of India is keeping a close watch on the rising infection figures in these countries and is reviewing the necessary preparations to deal with any potential threat.
Experts say that even though Covid is not as widespread as before, its threat has not been completely averted due to the variants. Therefore, vigilance and monitoring are still extremely necessary.
